Pagasetic Marine Mortality Logbook
The Pagasetic Marine Mortality Logbook is a focused monitoring initiative dedicated to recording dead marine animals within the Pagasetic Gulf. The project documents loss in the marine environment and transforms individual observations into meaningful data for conservation and research.
By collecting standardized records from coastal zones and nearshore waters, the logbook helps reveal spatial patterns, seasonal trends, and possible human or environmental pressures affecting marine life.
What We Record
- Species identification when possible
- Date and time of observation
- Location within the Pagasetic Gulf
- Condition of the animal
- Estimated size and life stage
- Visible indications of possible cause of death
- Photographic documentation
Why It Matters
Marine mortality data is a critical indicator of ecosystem health. These records support early detection of unusual mortality events, environmental impact assessments, and informed conservation decisions.
Part of WOOP
This project operates as a dedicated sub project under WOOP. It complements biodiversity and observation based monitoring by documenting loss, providing a more complete picture of marine ecosystem health in the Pagasetic Gulf.
