A young Mediterranean monk seal (Monachus monachus) was seen on 26 October 2025 at the port of Marmari, South Evia, chasing fish right beside the pier. Playful and curious, “Spira” was named for the distinctive white spiral-like spots on her body, a mark of individuality among this critically endangered species. She represents the rare and gentle spirit of Greece’s marine life.
