NUDIBRANCHS OF SOUTH-EAST PELION: A Multi-Year Citizen Science and Field Research Report
Hidden beneath the coastal waters of South East Pelion lies a remarkable and often overlooked world of extraordinary marine biodiversity. This comprehensive report presents the results of a multi-year field research effort documenting nudibranch species in one of Greece’s most ecologically rich yet understudied regions.
Based on continuous in situ observations from 2017 to 2025, this work combines scientific field methodology with citizen science contributions to provide valuable insights into species presence, seasonal patterns, habitat associations, and behavioral observations. High-resolution photographic documentation supports each finding, offering both scientific value and visual depth.
This report contributes to the growing understanding of Mediterranean nudibranch diversity and highlights the importance of long-term monitoring in detecting ecological patterns and environmental change. It also demonstrates how independent research initiatives and citizen science can play a critical role in advancing marine conservation knowledge.
Produced by Merman Conservation Expeditions Ltd in collaboration with BiodiversityGR, this publication is intended for researchers, conservationists, marine biologists, and anyone interested in the hidden biodiversity of the Mediterranean Sea.
